Ystrad Mynach Hospital

Ystrad Mynach Hospital

The construction of the UK’s first ever 100% single-bed hospital covering 29,000 sq ft in a reclaimed flood plain just outside the town of Caerphilly. The entire structure is raised by one floor, leaving the ground floor as undercover parking.

The nature of the building meant a requirement for a lot of air to pass through the envelope. The challenge is to do this without letting rain in or noise out. As well as providing a practical solution, the design of such equipment would need to be in harmony with the architect’s vision of the scheme.

EMTEC were approached by Prater Ltd. to propose equipment that achieved the demanding performance criteria set by the specification in terms of noise control and weathering the building, and the answer was a combination of acoustic louvres and weather louvres set into the fabric of the building facades.

EMTEC successfully installed all elements safely and on programme and maintained a positive working relationship with Prater Ltd. and BAM throughout the project. The success of this project has led to repeat contracts with Prater Ltdt.
